Tuesday 1 June 2010 – 10 DAYS TO THE WORLD CUP

With ten days to go now four warm-up matches took place today featuring seven of the finalists in the competition.

The highest scoring match occurred between Holland and Ghana where the Dutch ran out 4-1 victors. Amongst the scorers were Kuyt and Van Persie in a game that should prove a useful tester against an African team for the Netherlands who will have to face Cameroon in Group E.

Cameroon themselves played against Portugal who ran out 3-1 winners after Eto’o was sent off, which Nani scoring for the Portuguese. Since the African Cup Of Nations people have been expressing more and more scepticism towards the African teams after initially thinking that this might be the competition where a nation from the continent would finally break out and potentially win the tournament.

Elsewhere from Group E Denmark today lost 1-0 to Australia with the winner coming from Kennedy and Switzerland (from Group H) also found themselves on the wrong end of a 1-0 score line, losing to non-qualifiers Costa Rica. This does not bode well for the Swiss.
